Quick video on types of shock. http://emsseo.com/insider
4 types of shock – Cardiogenic, Hypovolemic, Obstructive & Distributive.
Easy peasy right?
Well many people get mixed up and freak out when they start hearing things like Septic shock, anaphylactic shock and neurogenic shock.
“Where did these come from?”
In reality, they are part of distributive shock. So:
Distributive Shock also = Sepsis, Anaphylaxis and Neurogenic.
If you can remember this one shock type I think you can easily recall the other three.
Especially since they are pretty self explanatory.
Cardiogenic = MI, CHF — The Heart
Obstructive = Pneumothorax, PE , Cardiac Tamponade – The Flow is blocked
Hypovolemic = i.e. blood, fluid loss — Not enough fluid in the tank (the body).
