Director of the British Forces Foundation Mark Cann says he believes it was the “right decision” for Prince William to not go to war as there were too many risks involved.

“I think ultimately it wasn’t anyone one’s person wish that was the major concern, the major concern was the risk to others around, in this case, William … it would’ve been much harder to hide him,” Mr Cann said.

“It would be much more obvious that he was not in the country, and therefore I think people quickly would have put two and two together.

“I think they had no choice, I don’t know Prince William was very irritated and frustrated by it, but I think at the end of the day it was the right decision.

“Ultimately, had he been god forbid captured – that would have deeply compromised the whole endeavour.”
