This eclectic piece was recorded ironically just 6 months before I had some life changing injuries. This Musical Christmas “journey”was just a part of a live radio Concert I did for KRVS Radio- One of Our Top Louisiana NPR Stations (great folks!)–This was a 2 hour LIVE Broadcast for Christmas in December of 2006, Celebrating my 25 plus Years of Music. I had just remastered a lot of songs recorded from 25-30 years ago…to be release in late 2007 and felt I was at the top of my artistic abilities…
Just before that time, I took a pause with Art and Music dealing with the perils and devastation in 2005 here in Louisiana from hurricanes Rita and Katrina, somehow, I found my “solice of coping with life ” as usual, with Music and Art. As a Artist ( Visual Artist/ Painter) and Musician, through all the recovery from the storms, and past it all, I somehow “returned” to my roots and was absolutely alive again with a renewed vigor for Music, Art and Life!!! So I thought…

Then, in 2007 with no warning, once again, another “storm” of a different color…this time with head and spinal injuries…what followed in that wake was even more devastating.. 4 and a half years from Doctor to Doctor, spinal surgery, more and more complications mentally, physically, and emotionally.. Somehow, even my Spirit was crushed…One and a half years of physical therapy and an unreal amount of Doctor’s visits (thank God for them all! ) Now, I take life one day at a time…and even though my life has changed dramatically, I still remain thankful for the role, the great times, all the wonderful people who supported my Music and Art through the years, and most of all, the Blessings of Music and the Arts in my Life…This musical piece is a reflection of my passion for the Arts…

That said…. All the notes have been played…All the colors painted… What is interesting to me, is to move beyond the clearly apparent, the obvious and get just past the not so obvious!
This is my Piano solo “voyage” through some of my favorite Christmas songs…done LIVE with me playing piano-the “Tony” way..eclectic, rare, and colorful…

Contemporary Atonal JaZZ is one of my favorite venues of Jazz!! As a drummer/musician, I also played other instruments. I always felt blessed to be able to have so many unique perspectives of other instruments too… Drums have always been my first love and my first instrument. Piano, Bass, Voice and Guitar and many others, always ran a close second !!! By also being a Visual Artist too, the use of “colors” is all the same. By playing other instruments (also tonal colors…) it only made you a better drummer,a better musician and overall, a better “Artist” !! Contemporary Art and Improvisational Music are so “uncommonly” interesting for the Heart and Soul. It’s really a different combination for Body, Mind and Spirit! In clinics, live performances, art openings.. I would always share with folks..”Hear the Art and See the Music…” Many of them would look at me so puzzled and say “you mean…hear the Music and see the Art”.. I quickly always came back with;
“NO, I would like you to SEE THE MUSIC and HEAR THE ART!!!”…That always left them with ponderment… 🙂

This medley I assembled for this show was constructed with ages old Christmas Carols. This live performance musically “paints” such a vivid dream state “awakeness”.. with all it’s tonal and atonal colors that “paints” with only brief melodic ‘hints’ of the original melodies. This was very interesting to create. It’s where the colorful, the percussive and the melodic meet… Always a seeker of new realms— for Me, this was an absolute joy to create and perform. I really enjoyed performing it with two wonderful Musicians and long time friends!
I hope you enjoy the “not so obvious here!”; as we now get to share that moment when the Magic of Christmas and Music merged on that stage in 2006…
All the best
