Siberia. Once, the Empire of Genghis Khan, today – the “backbone” of Russia. For the very ¬first time Russian documentary TV series will tell you everything about real Siberia, full of amazing natural phenomena and historical paradoxes. In four episodes we will tell how Asian part of the continent became the main part of Russia in a period of less than 200 years. Permafrost, snow and boundless taiga – this is what distinguishes Siberia from other places. Here the past of shaman Siberia still lives in the genes of people, datsans stand next to Orthodox churches, the mound stores the “white princess” mummy, and steppe lands hide ancient gold of Scythians and Huns at the depth of 15 cm. “Black gold” and diamonds, the cleanest deep lake and ancient cities that grew up on the site of military settlements; streams that do notfreeze at a 70-degree frost – the most incredible, inaccessible and paradoxical things are located on a vast territory called Siberia. Our TV series is a reliable multilevel navigator based on its history, nature, and modern life.
FILM I: SIBERIA. THE NOMADS IN TIME (2019, ready for delivery)
Now Siberia is considered to be the heart of Russia. However, many centuries ago it was just another unexplored territory east of the Ural Mountains, north of China and Mongolia, full of mysteries and danger. Only the most desperate folk felt strong enough to meet the unknown lands. Such as runaways and escaped robbers, who were to become faithful followers of the Russian state, forming a military order similar to the Crusaders. The significant part of the Order was made up of the Cossacks, who explored the Siberian lands, vanquishing hordes of Khan Kuchum and building Orthodox churches until they reached Kamchatka and the Pacific Ocean. The episode is a tribute to the people brave at heart who did the impossible to settle in enigmatic and wild pagan lands of Siberia.
FILM II: SIBERIA. THE ASIAN MAXIMUM (2021, in production)
The story of the interaction between humans and nature in severe frost.
The village of Oymyakon is one of the harshest places on earth where people live and work constantly. Snow covers Oymyakon lands up to 229 days per year. Local people can easily carry out masterclasses on survival in taiga and coldness. Here – in the lands of diamonds – there are almost no roads and railways: a frozen river in winter and a waterway in summer serve as transportation. Can you imagine that people who live here in the most extreme climate in the world grow watermelons in the backyards?
FILM III: SIBERIA. FINDINGS AND TREASURES (2021, in production)
Looking for ancient treasures and paleontological finds? Welcome to world-renown Denisova cave.
Who we are and where we came from? The answers to these questions are unexpected – any “successful day” of an archaeologist or palaeontologist can turn our ideas about species and human life upside down. Found recently, “Denisovsky man” in the Altai cave is one of the most mysterious representatives of ancient people. The DNA from the 50,000-year-old fragment of the finger bone was so different from any known Neanderthal genetic sequence that the researchers concluded that it belonged to a separate group of people.
FILM IV: SIBERIA. TAIGA GODS (2021, in production)
Siberia as the last refuge for Russian gold miners.
Siberia is a unique territory on which Russia has “implanted” Christianity for hundreds of years. But in fact, Siberia is still pagan, shaman – just the same as 500 years ago. What does Siberia choose? In four huge areas – Tuva, Buryatia, Kalmykia and Altai – Buddhism is confessed. Llama Siberians and datsans
are very respected, and often local residents combine both religions and rituals – “Why not? We live together!”
